Most customers of a local shop, clinic or coaching class search within a few kilometres of where they are. How to set up your Google Business Profile, earn reviews and be the result people see first.
When someone in Amravati searches for a dentist, a tuition class, a car repair shop or a wedding caterer, Google does not show them a list of every business in India. It shows a map and a short list of nearby options, called the local pack, above the ordinary results. Being in that list is worth more to a local business than almost anything else in search, and it is available to any business that sets itself up properly.
The foundation is your Google Business Profile, formerly known as Google My Business. It is free, and it is what feeds the map listing. Claim your business, verify it, and then complete every section rather than filling in the minimum. Choose the most accurate primary category, because it carries more weight than any other single field. Add your exact address, opening hours, phone number, website and a short description that says plainly what you do and where. Add your services and, where it applies, your prices.
Consistency matters more than people expect. The name, address and phone number you use on your profile should match what appears on your website, on directories such as Justdial and IndiaMART, and on social media. If one listing says Ring Road and another says Navsari Road, or an old phone number is still live on a directory, search engines become less sure which details are correct. An hour spent tidying these listings is one of the cheapest improvements available.
Photos are worth real effort. Listings with genuine photos of the premises, the team and the work tend to attract more requests for directions and calls than those without. Use your own pictures, not stock images, and add new ones regularly. The same goes for posts: a short update about an offer, an event or a new batch keeps the profile active.
Reviews are the other major factor, both for ranking and for persuasion. A business with many recent, detailed reviews looks trustworthy and usually ranks better. The way to get them is simple: ask. Send customers a direct link to your review page by WhatsApp or SMS shortly after a job is done, while they are happy. Do not offer discounts in exchange for reviews, and do not write your own, since Google can remove reviews and penalise profiles for both. Reply to every review, the critical ones especially, politely and specifically. A calm reply to a bad review often does more for your reputation than the review takes away.
Your website supports all of this. Create a page for each service and, if you serve more than one town, a page for each area, written for that place and not copied with the name swapped. Mention the neighbourhoods and landmarks you actually serve. Embed a map on your contact page. Put your address and phone number in text, not just in an image, so that it can be read. Make sure the site loads quickly on a phone, since most local searches happen on one.
Do not overlook language. Many people in Vidarbha search in Marathi or Hindi, or in a mix of English and a local language. If your customers are among them, include those terms on your pages and in your profile description. Common phrases such as near me and the name of the area often matter more than the formal name of the service.
Finally, measure. Your profile's performance section shows how many people found you by searching, how many called, and how many asked for directions. Check it monthly. It tells you directly whether the work is producing customers, and unlike many marketing numbers, it is the one that counts.
